A healthier Super Bowl Sunday

I also posted this blog on www.medoscial.com

As everyone probably knows this Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday. It is not that I am against football, I actually like football. What I do not like is the amount of unhealthy food or crap that we will all eat this Sunday. I have never understood why when we all gather for a big event at someone’s house, we have to eat terribly unhealthy food.
I went to find some medical information on the amount of food that we as a country will consume on Sunday and it is amazing. I read that over 10 million burgers and over 500 million carbs will be eaten on Sunday alone. That is disgusting and we really need to look at it.
So at my party this weekend at my house, I am going to try and serve a healthier alternative to the normally fatty, insane food we eat on Super Bowl Sunday. I suggest a lot of salad, healthy chicken and fish as well as fruit and vegetable trays.

Medsocial: The Real Medical MySpace

Being a professional in the health field, I enjoy learning about the field from other people. So I joined MySpace but realized that it was for a very few real people and a lot of ads. I had given up on the internet as a place to talk about health and medicine. Then someone at work told me about www.medsocial.com, which he put it as the "Medical MySpace." I gave it a try and my life has never been the same.
Medsocial seems like a social networking website that is more mature than maybe some of the other social networking sites. I feel that the discussions are intelligent, wither it be e-mails with the friends that I have obtained, or from the blog postings or the forum section that allows many intelligent discussions.
Having said all of this, Medsocial is coming around to other things that other social networking websites has. It is still great to have a friends list that all the other social networking sites have. It makes it much easier to connect with those who I talk to on a regular basis. Also, I love being allowed to have a profile which allows me to post information about myself as well as pictures.
Like I said earlier, the blog and the forum sections are great. I like how the forum sections are separated into topics so that you can talk about a variety of health topics. Plus I always like having blogs to talk to others about things that are health related and those that are not.
Plus one thing unique to Medsocial is the points system. The website actually rewards you for participating on the website. You can receive points for just putting information about yourself, posting blogs and answering in the forum section. The rewards are enhanced website features and name awareness, but it is still fun.
Medsocial is really the only social networking site that I use, it is the only one really worth my time. And I can tell that it is getting better. It now offers videos and will soon offer health calculators and drug information soon. Until then, I will be waiting.

A sad start

Being a mother, I am always interested in children. I recently saw a video at work from a social networking site most of the dentist in my office are apart of. It is called www.medsocial.com. Anyways, this video is about young, very young children dying of cancer. It is so sad and yet so important to tell people that kids need help and not just the help of their parents, but the help from anyone who can give it.
